Here: CrashThomas Clément’s BA diploma collection Crash is inspired by the brutality of forms and left-over traces of car crashes. Broken windows, ripped car bodies, road signs, tyre skidmarks and convoluted patterns are interpreted into intriguing silhouettes, like the one wearing an anorak made of crumpled PVC and leather, laminated with aluminium.
There: Breaks and linesThe theme allows the designer to create a collection that displays its making, a kind of inside-out method with open ends. Clément combines high-end fabrics such as Sophie Hallette laces and EE Exclusives with experimental textiles made from hose and synthetic resins, such as the long, translucent silkscreen raincoat printed with a tartan pattern, barred with long, deep, scar-like folds.
Everywhere: After the Big BangInspired by modern fashion drawing based on strong lines and broad gestures, Thomas Clément introduces elements of upcycling into his designs, creating humorous and elegant characters from a very near future. Clément’s Crash feels like a starting point from which an inspiring warmth emanates. The Bon Génie Award for his BA collection is perfectly timed to support him on his upcoming journey in the MA Womenswear Fashion at Central Saint Martins University in London.
