Here: Smells like sweat, grass and fatigueInspired by the raw and intimate atmosphere of the soccer locker room, engulfed by piles of sweaty and discarded sport equipment, the fashion designer Lora Sonney creates a collection of highly feminine outfits and accessories. The outcome translates into a team-spirited series of looks that affirm a superpowered and self-conscious womanness.
There: From the locker to the catwalkLora’s collection develops three aspects of fashion design, working together with the graphic designer Rani Yasmine Putri for the visual identity of the collection. Out of the formless sports equipment bag she creates a series of witty accessories such as handbags and earrings. She literally turns the solid finishing for sportswear inside out to make it an ornament. And for the fabrics, the designer reinterprets the omnipresent mesh in sportswear by working on an experimental waterproof mohair in collaboration with the Swiss textile company Lang Yarns, where the plastic surface is reminiscent of sweaty skin.
Everywhere: In the long runThe powerful collection hit the scene in 2019 and was nominated for the LAB.SCENE competition launched by Who’s Next and the Istituto Marangoni, Paris, as well as for the fashion design award by the Fondation Hans Wilsdorf. Ça sent la sueur, l’herbe et la fatigue was also selected for the Bachelor Collection show of Mode Suisse Edition 16 in Zurich. Next on the agenda for Sonney, now enrolled as a Master student, is the further development of the promising mesh for her next collection.
